...eyes age...

I should not be writing about this dilemma but writing makes me forget and I feel free…

On 28 April 2009, I went for my regular eyes check-up at TTMC…my eyes stress level this time were reported as off-balance – right eye reads 18 while left eye at 14…normal stress reading should be at 16…next, Lina (Dr Tan’s assistant) conducted light test where my eyes were to chase blinking lights generated randomly within a special light test machine…from there, Lina captured my eyeballs images using the attached camera at the machine itself…

My results were unsatisfactory…Dr Tan prescribed me with a new set of eye drops and scheduled for OCT plus CCT scans at PCMC for the following day…

So, early Wednesday morning, after I bade farewell to Sharling (thank you dear for the Traders 2-nights sleep in), I went to have my breakfast at Rasa… I had my usual rice porridge accompanied by a ‘butterfly’ char kuey…

At 9 am, I took a cab to PCMC…my appointment was scheduled at 930 am…arriving at PCMC’s ophthalmology/ortorhinolaringology department, I was placed as a second patient of the day…

The objectives of both OCT/CCT scans are to measure the thickness of my corneas as well as to track the location of my damaged optic nerves…the scans were conducted twice each time, which totaled up to 16 scans (8 times per eye)…I felt a little bit dizzy and at one time, my left eye became too dry…hence, the nurse had to apply eye drops in order to moisten it…

After waiting for about 15 minutes or so, I was directed to meet Dr Tan in her office…my scan results were not what I would like to listen…although it is not something cancerous that may spread over time but I came to know that my eyes condition has worsen…

It turned out that my quarter blind left eye now is the better eye, compared to my non-blind right eye in terms of the distribution of cornea thickness and the severity of optic nerves damages…Dr Tan’s verdict indicated that I may go blind if not treated properly…

My eyes were below par according to my age…at 26, my corneas are already thinning…they were supposed to be 85 but from the scans, my right eye: 49 while my left eye: 58…I should be worried laa…ohh…my…ohh…my…

Later I told Dr Tan the name of medication I took to curb my chest pain (taken when necessary during my accident recovery period)…she was surprised as the pills are actually non-steroidal…the same goes to the rubbing cream I used…She then concluded that my body might be the inner culprit which generate the stress agents attacking my optic nerves inadvertently…more tests are needed to confirm this statement…

Apart from that, Dr Tan’s suspecting my family genetics to be the root cause…however, I mentioned to her that none of my siblings have anything to do with vision problem…only I’m the one who wears spectacles in the family…actually, she’s being concern as my close family members might have glaucoma too but is left unnoticed…that’s why the disease is also known as ‘the silent thief of sight’…

The final blow came up when Dr Tan popped up this very question to me…

“Aliza, I see that you’re single.”
“Ahh yes, doctor.Why?!!”
“When are you getting married?”
I just grinned and she continued,
“Let me just inform you that for this 1st line therapy, you might not be able to conceive for 2-3 years.”
“Owh…OK.”
“Ermmm, never mind laa.Once you get married, then we’ll look out for solutions. For now, make sure you’re constantly happy or otherwise, I’m quite worried laa. When you’re stress, you might stumble or fall down as currently you’re off balance.”

Then our conversation moved on to my profession and this worries her too…

“How frequent do you need to go offshore?”
“Occasionally.”
“I’m afraid that might be dangerous laa.”

Ohh…my…ohh…my…

I should be worried…but I’m NOT…is this a good sign?

I guess so…it helps me not to feel I am sick…

But still, how would I know my eyes stress is under control?

It is quite a challenge to maintain my happiness…

HAPPY all the time…

Don’t worry, be HAPPY…

Hohoho…

Smile…Yeay…

I smile…I’m HAPPY…I want to SEE~~~

i would URGE u to change ur lifestyle i.e:

1) have enough sleep. i noticed u sleep less and that will affect your stress level. our body need to relax, so does our eye nerves.. i know u're used to sleep late but that can be changed.. it needs 3 consecutive days to change ur body clock.. pls dear, do that for the people u love n love u..

2) reduce the usage of ur lappie. the radiation will have more effect on ur eyes too.. and of course, it will eat up ur sleeping hours.. refer to no 1 again..

3) i know you're on diet, but dear pls take a balanced diet. diet doesnt mean you dont eat at all. take more fruits and veges... those are good stuff for your body and nerves..

im not sure if those can help your eyes but apart from being happy, it sure can help to reduce your stress.. coz we never know what's going on inside our body.. and live a healthy life.. okay? *hugs*
